Good morning contrarians!
Stock futures are higher this morning. Small caps are leading the way, an encouraging sign, as the Russell 2000 advances 0.8%. Dow Industrials, S&P 500, and Nasdaq futures are all about 0.4% higher. Those numbers as of 0630.
It’s a big day for earnings. There’s a little something for everybody here: Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Procter & Gamble (PG), both due before the open, are major consumer staples. United Arlines (UAL), due after the close, is a good gauge of post-pandemic travel and input costs.
Netflix (NFLX), which also reports after the close, is an indicator of consumer discretionary spending when it comes to streaming and technology. Though Netflix is very much its own beast in that regard.
